As posted by Microsoft, support for Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 11 desktop application will end on certain versions of Windows 10 as of June 15, 2022. As a result, ERCOT will soon end its support of Internet Explorer on Market Management System User Interface (MMSUI) and the Outage Scheduler User Interface (OSUI) applications with Chrome and Microsoft Edge browser platforms and will release the Chromium-based version of MMSUI and OSUI on April 07, 2022.
According to a recent announcement made by ERCOT, as part of the M-A021722-02 Release, "after April 07, 2022, Market Participants will only be able to access the MMSUI and OSUI applications using Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers. It should be noted that users will be able to open only one MMSUI or OSUI browser session at a time in Google Chrome or Edge."
Experts within the field support the transition. Sean Lyndersay, a General Manager for Microsoft Edge Enterprise, for example, states, "not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications. Microsoft Edge has Internet Explorer mode (“IE mode”) built in, so you can access those legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications straight from Microsoft Edge."
In preparation for End-of-Life (EOL) of Internet Explorer, Market Participants are able to voluntarily test the MMSUI application in the MOTE environment with Chrome or Edge browser platforms from March 21, 2022 to March 25, 2022.
