On June 2nd, FERC approved tariff revisions allowing aggregations of distributed energy resources (DERs) in CAISO’s energy and ancillary markets. DERs will be a new type of market participant, and are defined as a distributed energy resource as any resource with a first point of interconnection to a utility distribution company or a metered subsystem. To participate, aggregations must be greater than 0.5 MW and less than 20 MW. CAISO currently has Energy Storage and Distributed Energy Resource changes to be scheduled in the Fall 2016 release.
